NXTGEN is proud to be working on behalf of a major UK government transformation project and is looking for an experienced Tax Manager to support both day-to-day tax operations and a significant finance systems transformation. This Tax Manager role offers the chance to work across a complex public sector environment, combining BAU tax delivery with input into the design and implementation of a major new ERP platform. As Tax Manager, you will play an important role in ensuring tax processes, controls and reporting requirements are effectively understood, maintained and embedded into the future finance model.
This is a high-impact contract within a large, complex environment where finance, systems and operational change are all progressing at pace. The programme will support a wide group of users across multiple government departments, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of tax, finance transformation and stakeholder engagement.
You will take ownership of key BAU tax activity while working closely with finance, programme and operational teams to provide insight, guidance and challenge throughout the transformation lifecycle. This will include supporting process improvement, contributing to system design discussions and ensuring tax requirements are considered as part of the wider ERP implementation.

- Leading BAU tax activity, with a particular focus on VAT and compliance
- Providing tax guidance and advisory support to internal stakeholders
- Supporting ERP implementation activity from a tax perspective
- Reviewing and improving tax processes, controls and reporting requirements
- Working closely with programme teams to influence system design and readiness
- Supporting testing, data preparation and implementation activity where required
- Building strong relationships across finance, operations and transformation teams
- Contributing to wider finance transformation and continuous improvement activity
The successful candidate will ideally bring:
- A recognised accounting qualification
- Strong UK tax and VAT expertise
- Experience working in a large, complex or public sector environment
- Knowledge of government VAT rules would be highly beneficial
- Exposure to ERP systems, finance systems change or transformation activity
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- The ability to work independently while contributing to wider programme objectives
This role would suit a tax specialist who enjoys more than just BAU delivery and wants to contribute to a high-profile transformation programme with genuine scale, complexity and long-term impact.
