NXTGEN is recruiting a Senior Financial Accountant for an established and growing business based in Lowestoft. This Senior Financial Accountant opportunity is ideally suited to an ACA or ACCA-qualified accountant looking to make their first move from practice into a broad, technically focused industry position.
Working closely with the Finance Director, you’ll take ownership of financial controls, compliance and the integrity of the organisation’s reporting. Rather than managing a team or running the transactional finance function, your focus will be on reviewing how finance operates, strengthening processes and ensuring the business maintains a robust financial control environment as it continues to grow.
The role
As the Senior Financial Accountant, you’ll act as a key technical resource within finance, combining detailed accounting work with wider exposure to governance, risk and process improvement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and strengthening financial controls across the business
- Ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are accurate, complete and supported
- Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts and year-end reporting
- Acting as a key point of contact during the external audit process
- Maintaining clear finance policies, procedures and control documentation
- Reviewing accounting treatments and providing technical guidance where required
- Supporting tax, VAT and wider financial compliance activity
- Identifying weaknesses or inconsistencies within existing processes
- Working with stakeholders to implement practical control improvements
- Supporting the integrity and accuracy of monthly financial reporting
- Improving the quality of financial information available to senior leadership
- Contributing to finance systems, reporting and process improvement projects
What are we looking for?
The successful Senior Financial Accountant will be ACA or ACCA qualified with a strong grounding in audit, statutory accounts and financial reporting. You may currently be working within practice and looking for the right opportunity to move into industry, or already be operating in a financial accounting, controls or compliance-focused position.
Experience working with manufacturing, FMCG, stock-based or owner-managed clients would be useful, although the business is open to candidates from a wider range of audit portfolios. More important will be your ability to understand how financial processes fit together, identify potential risks and communicate improvements clearly.
This Senior Financial Accountant opportunity would suit someone who:
- Is ACA or ACCA qualified, ideally with a practice-trained background
- Has strong audit, statutory reporting and technical accounting experience
- Understands the importance of robust financial controls
- Is confident reviewing balance sheets and investigating discrepancies
- Can translate technical accounting requirements into practical actions
- Enjoys improving processes and challenging how things are currently done
- Communicates confidently with finance and non-finance stakeholders
- Wants to retain technical variety while gaining broader commercial exposure
This role offers the chance to retain the technical variety associated with audit and financial reporting while gaining wider commercial context and genuine ownership. It could provide an excellent bridge into industry for a practice-trained accountant or a natural next step for someone already operating in a technically focused finance position.
