NXTGEN is recruiting a Financial Controller for a growing business in Norwich. This opportunity will suit someone who enjoys taking responsibility for the accounts, understands the importance of strong payment controls and wants regular involvement with senior decision-makers.
As Financial Controller, you’ll bring together the accounting, cash management and transaction oversight that keeps the business running effectively. Alongside producing reliable financial reporting, you’ll ensure investment-related receipts and payments are accurately recorded, reconciled and supported by the right approvals.
It’s a varied remit with plenty of practical involvement. One day you could be explaining a movement in the management accounts; the next, reviewing a funding payment or improving how financial transactions are tracked.
Your responsibilities as Financial Controller will include:
- Owning the monthly reporting cycle, preparing management accounts and explaining performance against budget.
- Maintaining accurate balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals, prepayments and intercompany records.
- Building budgets and rolling forecasts, with a clear view of upcoming cash commitments.
- Keeping investor records up to date and reconciling receipts against individual investment balances.
- Calculating interest due and organising payment schedules covering investment maturities, repayments and redemptions.
- Reviewing development funding requests against agreed milestones, documentation and authorisation requirements.
- Checking payment instructions and bank details, maintaining appropriate approval procedures for substantial transactions.
- Reconciling business and client accounts, resolving outstanding items and working with compliance colleagues on the separation of funds.
- Overseeing ledgers, payment runs, credit control, expenses and payroll accounting.
- Coordinating audit information and supporting external advisers with statutory accounts, VAT and tax requirements.
- Finding practical ways to strengthen controls and make reporting and finance processes more efficient.
What you’ll bring
To succeed as Financial Controller, you’ll need a solid grounding in management accounting, reconciliations and cash forecasting, together with experience handling high-value payments, interest calculations and payment schedules.
You’ll be confident using Excel and accounting software, comfortable investigating discrepancies and able to communicate clearly with colleagues across the business. Accuracy, confidentiality and sound judgement will be central to your approach.
Applications are welcome from ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified and part-qualified accountants, as well as candidates with equivalent relevant experience.
A background in financial services, lending, investment or property finance would be particularly useful. Experience with client funds, investor transactions, development drawdowns or multiple entities would also be an advantage.
This Financial Controller position is based in Norwich and requires full-time office attendance.
